Well, there is one way to settle this thread. I am pretty sure this is Krista's mom: Opelousas -

MARGIE STEGALL born 05 Apr 1937 died Jul 1987 (Opelousas, Saint Landry, LA)

Since she died just days before Krista's birthday and she is 29 now, she would have been 15 at the time of death. And before anyone says anything, the above is all public info., can find it searching on any online SSDI index. (It's also what I do for a living).

There is only one cemetery in Opelousas that I could find:

Bellevue Memorial Park 122 N Market St (318) 942-7055

It's way too long distance for me and frankly I don't care that much anyway :) but if anyone is that curious about whether or not there is a headstone, you can just call the above number and ask.

I also checked for a male death in Opelousas in the mid 1970's (Krista's dad died when she was around 5, right? That would make it circa 1976) with no luck. There are a couple in the right time frame but different parts of LA. If anyone knows his first name or more information, I can try to find more.

Donating money to Krista as a gift is a personal decision. Myself, I would rather see my money go towards something worthwhile. (No, the Krista charity is not a worthy one, IMO) Snooping into how she spends her money is ridiculous. No one is suggesting we snoop. There are laws which govern donations, anyways.

I'm with Flyonthwall, the donation to Cancer society is entirely appropriate.

[Good job Rissa, I do genealogy too.]

Twig - fun, isn't it? Like detective work.

Yesterday I got a land application for War of 1812 service in the mail, that I ordered in July 2000! The file was pulled 2 days after the Nat'l Archives received it, but it took over a year to get it in the mail to me! What is up with that!

Anyway, sorry to get off topic. I should be at the library now...

It appears as if my ancestors had several bad heir days.

Genealogists do not die, they just lose their census.

I'm searching for myself...Have you seen me?

:) I haven't met anyone who didn't start out searching their own family history and hasn't ended up totally addicted. Dulci, I know totally what you mean about that 1812 document. When I get a document I have spent months/years digging for, I throw it in my car and take it to show to every person I run into for the next month. LOL That's why I figured since I am nearing the end of what I wanted to accomplish with my own family, I better start digging up other folk's families or I would have major withdrawal. {G}

BTW, I did find Krista's dad:

FRED STEGALL born 14 Aug 1933 died Jul 1977
His place of death wasn't specified which is what gave me trouble. So Krista is being honest about her family as far as that goes. I haven't found any evidence that she is exaggerating or warping the story to gain sympathy besides her bringing it up in the first place.

Rissa - this is the first place I have been able to show off my document. Everyone else gets that glazed look in their eye whenever I bring up family history. I really *should* be at the library now, I want to look at that 1830 Union Co, SC census film again...

Okay my last comment in this thread...

I was willing to go with a donation to Cancer society for Krista, but after this morning's converstaion Krista again has firmed in my mind she does not need any help.
She also said she did not want the money anymore she just wants to go home.

She commented that she has a computer, and she is going to buy a VCR when she gets out.
She has also commented that she is going to get a boob job, tattoo ect.

So I just can't stay unbiased on this subject.
Everyone has to do what they feel is right for them, for me giving any money on Krista's behalf, is no longer an option.

I had my coffee and have woke up! LOL

krista was just trying to round up 2 sympathy votes today. she wouldn't vote against monica but it didn't bother her a bit to campaign one last reason why pitiful krista with the horrible life should have won. just my opinion.

I understand that Krista's mother has a tombstone. Krista wants a marble one.

Just to clear up some things.

Krista's mother HAS a tombstone. Krista wants to get her a MARBLE tombstone.

The citizens of Opelousas, in a goodwill gesture to support their hometown girl, have gotten together and raised the money to buy her one.

So folks PLEASE donate your hard earned money to a local charity that truly deserves it.

*PS...Krista STILL has not seen her daughter after getting evicted. SHAME SHAME.
