The ClubHouse: Big Brother Archives: TV Ratings
| Maggierain | Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 08:09 am Does anyone know what the ratings were for this past week? Or, a site that I can look for them? I want to see how BB is doing with the public. Thanks in advance. |
| Bbrock | Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 08:20 am Maggierain...try here. HTH's http://wishingwellarts.com/BigBrother2/RatingsTracker.htm |
| Espen | Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 08:20 am Zap2it.com is another good site to check ratings for the show.. Check out their "ratings" section under "TV".. Ratings have generally been improving slightly the last few weeks, especially in the key 18-49 demographic.. Last weeks 4.4 in this demographic was the best since the last post-survivor show last year (according to inside.com).. I will try to post rating info in Outside the House after each show if people are interested.. |
| Snoopie | Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 08:22 am Another good place to get the top shows is at the USAToday site. http://www.usatoday.com/life/enter/tv/nielsen.htm |
| Grooch | Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 08:23 am How is it doing in its timeslot compared to the other shows it's against? |
| Bracken | Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 08:44 am Thanks for the keeping us informed Espen. Perhaps there may be a BB3 if ratings improve, if so, I'll have many chores remaining unfinished next summer as well. LOL :* |
| Espen | Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 09:00 am According to WishingWellarts, its been number #1 in total households in its timeslot 5 times, #2 11 times and #3 3 times (2 of which were during the first week). I don't have comparable data for the key 18-49 demographic, but recall them being #1 in their time slot in this demographic many of the times it was #2 in households, especially against shows like "Who wants to be..", which gets high household ratings but mostly from older people not as attractive to advertisers.. In other words its doing pretty well, especially where it matters.. Nothing like Survivor or even Fear Factor, but definately not a failure. Also, as you may have noticed, noone seems to be slamming the show for "low ratings" this summer.. |

| Hotlantan | Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 10:18 am Hampsterfan, That #19 rating is for last Thursday's show only. For year to date it would rank 79th overall. 19. (79) "Big Brother II," CBS, 6.4, 6.5 million homes. 29. "Big Brother II-Tuesday," CBS, 6.0 68. "Big Brother II-Saturday," CBS, 3.7 Neither Tuesday or Saturday would made the overall Top 100 shows for the year to date. |
| Espen | Wednesday, August 22, 2001 - 11:15 am Here is some information about the ratings from inside.com. RATINGS REPORT: Suddenly, Big Brother is Prime Time's Hottest Reality Show. Last summer's 'Big Bore' is now one of this summer's hotter demographic draws, though that says as much about the weakness of the competition as the strength of the CBS show. (by Tom Bierbaum) With Fear Factor temporarily on the shelf, CBS's Big Brother 2 has quietly emerged as prime time's top-rated unscripted program. Last night's edition scored the highest adult 18-49 rating for any network telecast of the evening. Results are preliminary, but at the moment, that Big Brother episode has also tied the show's highest Tuesday adult 18-49 rating ever. And if this afternoon's ratings updates bring any gains (which are likely), last night's edition will tie or top this summer's best Big Brother 2 18-49 score on any night of the week. That makes Big Brother the hottest unscripted show currently on the prime-time broadcast schedule. Since the undisputed hit of the summer, NBC's Fear Factor, was pulled two weeks ago, its schedule mate, The Weakest Link, has had trouble finding its footing. The most recent Weakest Link trails Tuesday's Big Brother by 15 percent among adults 18-49. Meanwhile, last night's results for Spy TV and Murder in Small Town X confirm that those two once-promising shows are way past their peaks and unlikely to generate much more excitement this summer. According to preliminary "fast affiliate" data from Nielsen Media Research, last night's 9-10 p.m. installment of Big Brother earned a 4.1 rating, 12 share among adults 18-49 and a 6.2/10 in households. That was good enough to win the hour over both ABC's and NBC's comedy repeats(3.2/9 each) by 3 shares. The closest any Tuesday telecast came to Big Brother's 4.1/12 among adults 18-49 was Fox's 8 p.m. time-period winning rerun of That '70s Show (preliminary 3.6/13 in 18-49, 4.5/8 in homes). Big Brother's evolution from big disappointment one summer to temporary leader of the unscripted pack the next is an ironic transformation, since the ratings really aren't that much better. True, last night's preliminary 4.1/12 among adults 18-49 is 21 percent higher than Big Brother 1's 3.4/11 Tuesday average last summer, but that's largely because there are a lot more available viewers in this year's 9-10 p.m. time period than last year's 8-8:30 half hour. Last night, for example, 18-49 usage was 27 percent higher from 9-10 p.m. than it was from 8-8:30. Thus, last night's 12 share of available 18-49 viewers was up just 1 point from last year's average 11 share. Thursday's best Big Brother 2 18-49 numbers to date are likewise up just 1 share from last year's Thursday average and Saturday's best result is up 2 shares from last year's average on that night. Clearly, Big Brother's stronger standing this year has as much to do with better time periods and a temporary lack of strong competition as with the show's actual Nielsen progress. |
| Hampsterfan | Wednesday, August 22, 2001 - 02:42 pm During a week of woefully low demographic ratings, NBC mustered the highest adults 18-49 average with a 2.8 rating/9 share. CBS ran second in total viewers (7.7 million) and adults 18-49 (2.6/8). The eye network's demo score was propped up by the Tuesday and Thursday editions of "Big Brother 2." The housebound reality show won its time slot outright Tuesday and placed a close second to NBC's "Will & Grace" combo in the demo Thursday. The Saturday installment of "Brother" was benched for a Baltimore Ravens-New York Jets NFL preseason game that delivered a mere 4.8 million viewers from 8-11:12 p.m. http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/bpihw/20010821/en/abc_nbc_front-runners_in_soft_primetime_week_1.html |

| Bbvoyeur | Wednesday, August 22, 2001 - 03:21 pm Why is Fear Factor "on the shelf." I thought it was doing well. |
| Hotlantan | Wednesday, August 22, 2001 - 04:08 pm BBvoyeur, Only nine episodes of "Fear Factor" were made. NBC is holding the final episode to run on September 5th opposite the debut of "The Amazing Race" on CBS. Since debuting on June 11, ``Fear'' has seen its audience climb from an estimated 12 million viewers in its first week to an estimated 15 million for episode eight. Despite the strong performance, the show still lags well behind last summer summer's smash hit, CBS's ``Survivor,'' which set the bar high with an average of 23.4 million viewers each week through this time last year. NBC has no concrete plans for more ``Fear Factor'' episodes in the fall, but will likely use the show as backup after new shows on the schedule start to get pulled in September and October. Ratings Episode Eight: 10.1/17 Episode Seven: 8.0/14 Episode Six 8.3/14 Episode Five 8.2/14 Episode Four: 7.7/14 Episode Three: 8.2/14 Episode Two: 7.4/13 Episode One: 8.0/13 |

| Espen | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 10:37 am Here is the latest ratings news. BB not only was the best rated show in the 18-49 demographic (with 3.9/13), it lead CBS to its first Wednesday win since the last Wed. Survivor in march and helped improve the ratings for the Miss Teen USA (with Krista coincidentally (not) as a judge). Here is the Tom Bierbaum Report from Inside.com: RATINGS REPORT: Beauty and the Brother Hit It Off CBS wins its first Wednesday in five months as Big Brother and Miss Teen USA find they're a compatible couple(...) A special Big Brother and the Miss Teen USA Pageant proved to be compatible schedule mates last night, teaming up to give CBS its first Wednesday victory in the key adult 18-49 demographic since Survivor last aired on the night March 21. According to preliminary "fast affiliate" data from Nielsen Media Research, last night's special Wednesday edition of Big Brother won its hour with a 3.9 rating, 13 share among adults 18-49 and a 6.2/11. That 3.9/13 more than doubles what CBS got in the hour a week earlier from the usual rerun of 60 Minutes II (1.8/7 in 18-49, 6.0/11 in homes)(...) With Big Brother dominating prime time's opening hour last night, the Miss Teen USA Pageant (preliminary 3.1/9 in 18-49, 5.5/9 in homes) went on to a surprisingly competitive performance in the 9-11 p.m. block. (...) CBS ranks first in last night's preliminary 18-49 averages: CBS, 3.4/10; NBC, 3.2/10; ABC, 3.0/9; Fox, 2.5/8. Excluding nights on which awards shows or Survivor has boosted CBS's averages, this is the network's highest Wednesday rating in the nearly nine months since the movie A Perfect Murder (4.2/10 in 18-49, 8.4/13 in homes) aired Nov. 29.
