HOH competition: Hardy's turn totally unfair
The ClubHouse: Big Brother Archives: HOH competition: Hardy's turn totally unfair
| Bijoux | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 10:03 am Hi Grooch! I forced myself to house sit for my Dad in Carmel, CA for a while. I don't think that either cheated. Unless a name in pulled out of a hat, I don't think that the producers can up with a challenge that doesn't favor someone and Hardy does seem to have not only a physical advantage but an intellectual advantage too. (Ok, I know I'm going to hear it on that, but that's JMHO) Hardy only won by seven seconds, it doesn't seem to me that he was able to capitalize very much on his "advantage." But then, I want anyone but Will to win. |
| Whit4you | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 10:12 am Well ironically - the rules - which Nicole read 2 times word for word - said you had to KNOCK down the flags in the order of the evicted houseguest... only one flag to my knowledge was actually knocked down. That was Shannon's flag via Bunky. So final score based on BB's own rules would have been 1 to 0 Bunky wins. But I know what I saw and Hardy's car was not going straight up that ramp - it veered off at the bottom of the ramp over to the edge and off... where he placed it definately gave him an unfair advantage - and in a game where a few seconds can cost someone 500,000 that was a really poor idea on BB's part. There's a reason why McDonalds Monopoly game and other games like that have clear cut rules that can't be misunderstood. I've watched a number of these car races - they are done for fun or for very small prizes so nobody really cares that someone gives themselves an advantage when replacing their car ... sure it's just saving them seconds.. sure they migh win because of it.. but it's just no big deal. When your playing for 500,000 it IS a big deal. It doesn't take rocket science to see that when Hardy's car got stuck in the oil wells he placed it on the other side of the well facing the flag.. (didn't efffect outcome imo) but his car was NOT heading towards the flag when it got stuck heading up that ramp - he decided however to place it in the middle of that ramp facing the flag.... in a game where 500,000 is riding on the outcome with 12 seconds between competitors... that's a big mistake on BB's part to allow it. |
| Realfan | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 10:29 am Do you really think either Hardy or Bunky should have replaced their car going BACKWARDS on the course? Please, be real. They EACH put their car back on the track in the direction they intended it to travel. That seems pretty fair to me. And you have to admit, if there hadn't even BEEN a second day of competition, Hardy would have won hands down anyway. He got by FAR the most questions right. Not only that, but two of the other questions could easily have gone to him (the Las Vegas/Nevada one and one which was an "instant replay" tie.) He's clearly a very smart guy (As an author, I was SO glad he knew where Steven King lives! And I, for one, LOVE the movie "Fargo"--which, oddly enough, takes place more in Minnesota than North Dakota.) |
| Duchess | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 11:46 am Do you think Will and Monica would have called attention to themselves by questioning how Hardy played the game? They would have been targeted by Hardy by nominating them if they made a noise about the game. |
| Olivier | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 11:52 am I'm not saying he did, but IF Hardy did anything that could be perceived as "cheating" - do you REALLY think anyone would call him on it or argue with him about it at this stage of the so-called game? Just asking. . . |
| Realfan | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 11:56 am <<Do you think Will and Monica would have called attention to themselves by questioning how Hardy played the game? They would have been targeted by Hardy by nominating them if they made a noise about the game. >> Oh, come on. Nothing would stop them from going into the Diary Room and discussing it with the BB staff, if they were truly concerned. It's an administrative issue, not a game-playing issue, and they could bring it up in confidence to the powers that be if they truly felt they had a leg to stand on. Which they don't. |
| What555456 | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 12:14 pm <<Do you think Will and Monica would have called attention to themselves by questioning how Hardy played the game? They would have been targeted by Hardy by nominating them if they made a noise about the game. >> As I recall, Will and Monica were given STRICT orders not to say anything outside. They were not about to risk a penalty nomination or, even worse, one of Hardy's temper tantrums like the one where he had to contain himself from physically assaulting Kent. There can be any number of explanations for the overlooking of Hardy's cheating, but they do not dismiss the fact that the referee desparately wanted him to win, allowed him to look over the course while she read the rules and overlooked how he placed his cars in strategic positions when they got stuck, that CBS had rigged the event to be one he was most likely most skilled at and that those who might have objected to any cheating had been ordered by CBS to keep their mouths shut. Explain it away all you want, Hardy lovers, but the facts are the facts. |
| Paulyace | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 12:33 pm Whit makes some very interesting points. The course was set up like a steeplechase you see at the Olympics....but if a horse has to reset itself, it does so at a penalty of faults...for the life of me I can't understand why and how both Hardy and Bunky were allowed to reset the RC car without some kind of time penalty.. |
| Kioattee | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 12:37 pm Realfan, maybe they did go to the Diary Room and discussed it, we don't know because they don't show them. I don't think anyone cheated but I do think that Hardy had an unfair advantage. The HOH games should be as fair as they can be. Maybe for the next HOH they can all shoot baskets. |
| Spunkybb2 | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 12:47 pm I think Hardy has the luck of the devil. This type of luck may make him the winner of BB2. That car should have ended up in the water....but the guys is just TOO lucky!! Anyway, we like to root for the underdog and this is why many didn't like Hardy to win this HOH. Also, we may be too naive expecting Hardy to concede the game to Bunky simply because he had been HOH already twice (that was Monica's thought and/or wish) but we now know the guy wants the money as badly as Nicole. But it's really his luck that saved him and not his skills.. How can you beat that and how can you cheer that? |
| Areil | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 01:22 pm I don't know why Hardy would concede...if Bunky won HOH...he was going to nominate Hardy. If they geared this contest towards Hardy..then they would have to be doing it on all the HOH.If you think that's true ..you have a choice to watch it or not.Personally i think they manipulate a lot of things in this game but i'm certainly not gonna blame the hg's.I go in with those beliefs and choose to watch it anyway. |
