| Hampsterfan | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 07:17 am HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Tuesday night's episode of ``Big Brother 2'' appeared to take the concept of prime-time product placement to a new level -- at least at first glance. A so-called ``luxury challenge'' on Tuesday's segment had the ``Big Brother'' house guests competing for a shot at a screening of Universal Picture's ``American Pie 2.'' "no money changed hands" "It would never cross my mind to do that at all" "It's coincidental synergy" "the studio didn't pay a dime for the clip" CBS might want to consider charging in the future, based on the ratings performance of ``Big Brother 2.'' Tuesday's episode was the most-watched program of the night on any network in all key demographics. See entire article at http://tv.yahoo.com/news/va/20010823/099855618700.html |
| What555456 | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 07:21 am It's all for the money. No cash changed hands, but compensation was provided somewhere. Someone agreed to something to have this happen. |
| Judy | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 07:27 am Great news to see that the ratings are going UP! Of course someone had to make a deal to show that movie in the BB house- I mean they didn't just send some PA to the theater with a Sony Digi-cam to bootleg the thing! |
| Babyruth | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 07:30 am More: While the segment seemed to be a well-designed plug for Blockbuster and ``Pie,'' a CBS representative and ``Big Brother'' executive producer Arnold Shapiro both said no money changed hands. ` `It's coincidental synergy,'' a CBS spokesman said of the contest's ``blockbuster'' theme, noting that the word ``blockbuster'' is a fairly common adjective for a hit movie. GIMME A BREAK!! Blockbuster was the main advertiser!! Every commercial break started with a Blockbuster ad!!! |
| Franny | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 07:38 am No money has to change hands..It's the barter system at it's finest... Plug our movie...get better ratings plug blockbuster...get better ratings Let's face it they needed better ratings and this was a way to make everyone happy...Nothing wrong with that. |
| Snee | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 08:07 am coincidence or not? not. |
| Kitt | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 05:14 pm Did you notice when they laid the pitch for the challenge they described American Pie 2 as "this summer's biggest hit"? I don't think so! |
| Tata | Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 05:23 pm Also, everytime Bunky and Monica were about to say something bad about the movie in the live feeds, they went to the FOTH... Why would they care if they liked the movie or not when they didn't have any deal? Makes you go, "Hmmm." (JMO) |
